BSS Nisanta 4-5 Correction

bhakti-rasAmRta-sindhau carataH paribhUta-kAla-jAla-bhiyaH |

bhakta-makarAn azIlita-mukti-nadIkAn namasyAmi || 4 ||

I bow to the dolphin-like devotees who sport in the nectarous ocean of bhakti-rasa. They have conquered their fear of the snare of death and care nothing for the rivers of mukti. (Bhakti-RasAmRta-Sindhu 1.1.4)

prage zrIvAsasya dvija-kula-ravair niSkuTavare

zruti-dhvAna-prakhyaiH sapadi gata-nidraM pulakitam |

hareH pArzve rAdhA-sthitim anubhavantaM nayana-jair

jalaiH saMsiktAGgaM vara-kanaka-gauram bhaja manaH || 5 ||


O mind! Just worship the beautiful golden form of Sri Gaura as he lies at dawn in a pleasure grove near the house of Srivasa Thakura. Awakened by the singing of birds, which resembled the chanting of the Vedas, he is at once filled with joy and soaked in tears as he perceives Sri Radha alongside Sri Hari.

BSS Nisanta 3 Correction

zoNa-snigdhAGguli-dala-kulaM jAta-rAgaM parAgaiH

zrI-rAdhAyAH stana-mukulayoH kuGkuma-kSoda-rUpaiH |

bhakta-zraddhA-madhu-nakha-mahaH-puJja-kiJjalka-jAlaM

jaGghA-nAlaM caraNa-kamalaM pAtu naH pUtanAreH || 3 ||

May we always serve the lotus feet of the enemy of Putana, Sri Krishna, their petal-like toes soft and reddish. The crimson pollen they bear is kunkuma powder from the budding breasts of Sri Radha. The effulgences of their nails are the filaments, their shanks are the stalks, and the bhaktas’ faith is the nectar. (Ananda-VRndAvana-CampUH 1.2)

BSS Pratar 145 Correction

dadhAra dyuSadAM rAmo dhavalAvali-veSTitaH |

kailAsa-gaNDa-zailAlI-madhyasthairAvata-bhramam || 145 ||

“When the gods saw Balarama there, surrounded by many white cows, they mistook him to be the elephant Airavata standing among the boulders on Mount Kailasa.” (Govinda-LIlAmRtam 2.38)

Corrections

I'm finding quite a few verses in my translation of BSS that need some work, so for the benefit of those who have an old copy, I'm going to post some of the corrections here, not necessarily in any order. If anyone sees any mistakes, please let me know. The first one is verse 236 of Pratar-Lila:

ajani rasavatI-vidhApanArthA rasavati! te gatir ity avaimi nUnam |

atha kim itarathA javAd ayAsIH prathamato’nunayanty amUM mad-AryAm || 236 ||

  “O charming one! I know you’ve come to get me for cooking. Otherwise, why would you first go to offer your respects to my mother-in-law?”  (KRSNa-BhAvanAmRtam 5.3)

Description of Sri Shyama-Kunda, the Sakha’s Kunjas, etc.

prAyaH sa evaM-vidha-sannivezakaM dadarza tat-pArzvagam AtmanaH saraH |

kuJjaiH svakAntAgrahato’tisaMskRtair virAjitaM narma-sakhAli-nirmitaiH ||

“Then Krishna looked at his own splendid lake nearby, similar to Radha-Kunda, with bowers created and nicely prepared by his priya-narma-sakhas out of their affection for Radha.” (Govinda-LIlAmRtam 7.111)

priya-narma-vayasyA ye subalo madhumaGgalaH |

ujjvalArjuna-gandharvA vidagdha-bhRGga-kokilAH ||

dakSa-sannandanAdyAz ca teSAM sva-svAbhidhAnvitAH |

tair vibhajyArpitAH kuJjAs te rAdhA-lalitAdiSu ||

“Distinguished by the names of Krishna’s dearest friends, such as Subala, Madhumangala, Ujjvala, Arjuna, Gandharva, Vidagdha, Bhringa, Kokila, Daksha, Sannandana and so on, the kunjas had then been entrusted to Radha, Lalita and the others.” (Govinda-LIlAmRtam 7.112-113)
